"One of the four biggest influences on my life and training." That's how Mick describes this weeks guest, Neil Simkin. Together they discuss his journey through the arts, from karate to BJJ, and the joys of competing at both. They also discuss the setting up of his own mat hire business, the GB youth elite BJJ squad, and the pain of losing a trusted sensei and friend in Steve Fan. #BJJ #JKD #Karate #BrazilianJiuJitsu #Grappling #RickYoung #BraulioEstima Over 40 years of martial arts experience, Neil first rose to fame as part of the England Karate Squad, which he would go onto captain. He became the first person to hold the British, English & European Title at the same time. He retired from competitive Karate in May 2000, I finally decided to retire from competing in karate as a Triple World Medallist. But that was just the end of one chapter as he then went on to train in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, training under Rick Young and Braulio Estima, earning his black belt from the latter. He continues to compete all over the world in BJJ and has medalled in every major competition.
