It’s been awhile since we’ve even had the opportunity to do a bonafide Box Office Update, which was a fun segment on our MMO Weekly show. But since we’ve pivoted from the news shows the same way we used to do them (cuz the news is so terrible in 2020), we wait for big stories to hit, and this one is ENORMOUS. Early Tenet & Mulan numbers are now available, and after a full week of analysis and much debate between us Mikes, we threw out all our notes and just had a real talk discussion on WTF is happening amidst Covid-19 at the Domestic US Box Office.

Although we try not to talk much about politics, we can’t help but premise the episode on a few facts backed up by numbers because the United States Box Office is only doing a small portion of what’s been earned overseas. So we put the Tenet numbers in a larger context before we try to analyze the strategies they had at WB, movie theaters, and the White House. My god, does this unscripted conversation go EVERYWHERE, but that’s the point. Tenet affects Wonder Woman 1984 which affects Dune, and Mulan what’s to come throughout the rest of the fall and winter heading into Oscars season.

This was not our usual format and forgive us some of our rambling ways. But we did have a lot of fun with this discussion, and I’m pretty sure we covered everything we wanted to when we did all the research anyway.
