How is this Pixar’s first fairy tale? We don’t remember rushing to the theater when Brave came out, but this re-watch proves what idiots we used to be. Brave features some of our favorite characters in the entire series, a more serious backstory in our history segment for a change, & perhaps the most helpful rules in the 22 Rules of Pixar Storytelling.

This is our 9th installment in our Pixar Re-Watch series as we continue to build toward the late June release of likely Oscar nominee, Toy Story 4. Brave also marks our 12th film that we’ve covered thus far with 8 more to come. We’ll be reviewing Inside Out and The Good Dinosaur next (we think). Then we’ll have reviews of Coco, the Cars franchise, and finally, the sequels to Toy Story. So if you’re enjoying the re-watch thus far, please continue to tune in. We’ll also most likely do a Toy Story 4 Guess The Plot. Then of course, we’ll cover the Best Animated Feature race throughout awards season.

In this episode, we have fun with the cast & crew, and then we get a little serious for a few minutes as we have to discuss the gender inequality of the industry that unfortunately, exists within Pixar company as it seems to everywhere. It’s sad, but there are some progressive silver linings to be highlighted by the end of our chronicle.

But the fun picks up again soon after as we dive into the non-spoiler review. Per usual, Pixar delivered another unique visual experience, and we highlight some of their animation innovations, the great field trip they took during production, and how they distinguished these vivid and lovable characters.

Then we have a blast with a breakdown of the plot in spoilers with nearly too many favorite moments of heartbreaks that hurt so good and payoffs that make us so very happy. The animators outdo themselves with the degree of difficulty in the dramatic performances at the center of the film. But they also bring some of the funniest characters to life in this fairy tale.
