Suspiria is far from a timeless story back in its original form of the 1977 Dario Argento film. But it’s definitely a cult classic, a visual masterpiece, and a trendsetter in terms of its score. So in light of our review on the original, we modernize our look at this story as does Luca Guadagnino with this 2018 “remake,” a term we’ll apply loosely. In any event, this is one of our more loaded reviews. We have thorough, unique, and heavily researched presentations in both our non-spoiler and spoiler segments of this episode. If you’re a fan of our show, and if you enjoyed the way we broke down similar mind bending films like Mulholland Drive, Annihilation, or Hereditary in previous episodes, then you do not want to miss this detailed Oscars Sprint Profile of Luca Guadagnino’s Suspiria.

We begin as we always do, with some weird banter, and then again, as we always do, with some cast & crew, production notes, and movie specs. Our presentation compares this remake to its original on many levels, but also to other films of its ilk, and the intense filming conditions and it’s mixed numbers also seem to parallel it’s critical and audience receptions, never mind it’s actual narrative at its black and pulsing heart. We then review the production values, performances, and the strengths and weaknesses of the script, and we’re much more positive than negative.

After we dance to some spoiler music, our show hits overdrive as we go beat by horrifying beat of this script. Also Mike gives a unique read on the story, on what it might mean on a symbolic, and dare I say, allegorical level, while Mike 1 focuses on his visceral reactions fresh off his recent filmgoing experience. As we often do, we research the hell out of what other critics are saying, and we cannot find most of these takes anywhere else. So just like our non-spoiler review, hopefully you give us some points for ambition on this one. Are we right? Are we way off base? Do let us know.
