MMO did Halloween. Now we’re doing Christmas. Although the Oscars remain our focus, we do plan on reviewing several of our holiday favorites, and first up, it’s The Muppets Christmas Carol!

OK, so maybe you didn’t expect that. Honestly, neither did we. But when we canvassed all the holiday movies out there and made a shortlist, this new muppet classic kept climbing to the top like Rizzo & Gonzo into 2nd floor windows. Perhaps we wanted to relive our ghosts of Christmas past or perhaps we’re both a pair of self-aware Scrooges who know they need to catch the Christmas spirit. Either way, we loved this friggin’ movie!

Following our usual review format, we discuss the cast & crew, research the production stories from behind the scenes, break down all the numbers in specs, and give a non-spoiler review of the production values, performances, & script before we compare the film to the Oscar nominees of that year. Then it’s a full plot breakdown in spoilers.

One Mike never seen it. The other had seen it a hundred thousand times. In any event, we both had fun reviewing this film. There’s a surprising amount to learn from its success. That Disney musical has worked for nearly three quarters of a century for very good reason(s), and we break down how they pull off a kids version of the creepy & heavy source material, Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol.
