Both of us are big fans of music and for the music in movies. Our 2017 Superlatives Episode No 48 covered several musical categories, and we’ve enjoyed talking soundtracks from The Fully Monty to Baby Driver and scores from Chinatown to Dunkirk. So we figured we needed to dive into some Best Original Song categories. 1997 marks our first foray into this other art form, and we have lots of fun.

We’ll play you snippets from the songs, we’ll give you a few specs and production notes for the winners, and then we’ll discuss the songs from their use in the film, their reprisal in a music video, and then if available on Youtube, the Oscar performance. Our commentary is substantial, even if our knowledge of the art is not. We always say that our show is equal parts banter / nonsense along with a genuine attempt at film appreciation & criticism, but this may be much more of the latter of the former (Damn, I write good. My 10th English teacher is so proud of me right now: he doesn't even know it.)

We heckle the 90’s music videos that we all saw then & now, we gush where it’s warranted and bow down to these epic talents on full display, and then we kid around with all of the awesomely bad moments in the songs and the scenes where they were showcased. Of course, all of our banter builds to a top 5 re-rank of the nominees.

Stay tuned for another one of these episodes about the 2013 Best Original Song category, which we recorded in the same session. As a heads up, we’ll also be delaying the Isle of Dogs review in order to crank out these next three Marvel Cinematic Universe pods.

Do chat it up with us on social media. We’re on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Reddit, and Gmail. Mikemikeandoscar.com is out of development hell and moving along some. Then where you can, please help us spread the word about our little show. Our audience is growing, and we’re very happy to tackle the movie world from the Oscars to the Blockbusters, from the awards to the Hollywood News episodes, from the reviews to the previews. As always, thanks for listening. When reality sucks, keep watching movies with us. We’re Mike, Mike, and Oscar!
