The decade is mostly remembered for the girls, the drugs and the rock n roll.  But we would be remiss if we didn’t talk about one other thing in the Hair Metal era-

THE EPIC POWER BALLADS!

Imagine this- standing shoulder to shoulder in a crowded arena with a lukewarm $10 beer in your hand.  You hear the first few chords of the electric guitar but see the guitar tech bring out an acoustic to the lead singer…
You cant get your lighter fast enough.  Its in your pocket but your leather pants are just too tight.  You turn to ask your friend to hold your beer but she is also searching deep in the pockets of her jean jacket for her lighter.  You look around and see the arena light up like fireflies.  Lighters everywhere.  You pray to god that no ones hair catches fire.  But that thought quickly subsides as you hear it…Every Rose Has It’s Thorn.  You are lost in the music and lighter flames, swaying side to side for the next 3 minutes as you dream of lying silent still in the dead of the night with Bret Michaels.

There are songs that will always take you back to a certain place and a certain time like High Enough by Damn Yankees, Home Sweet Home by the Crue and More than Words by Extreme.

But good god- there is nothing that can compare to Ike’s love of Firehouse- Love of a Lifetime.  It’s almost scary the trance he goes into when this song comes on.
