CHECKERS AND WRECKERS NEWS AND NOTES 

NASCAR 

Through the first 10 races in the NASCAR Cup Series, there have been 9 different winners.  Only repeat winner so far has been 2017 series champion Martin Truex Jr. (Phoenix and Martinsville) The first 2 weeks were won by first time Cup Series winners with Michael McDowell winning the Daytona 500 and Christopher Bell winning at the Daytona road course.  Alex Bowman became the 3rd first time winner this year at Richmond.  If you win, you are in the NASCAR Playoffs.  Also punching their tickets to the post season are William Byron (Homestead), Kyle Larson (Las Vegas), Ryan Blaney (Atlanta), Joey Logano (Bristol Dirt), and Brad Keselowski (Talladega).  Denny Hamlin has not won yet this year but has been finishing consistently enough to earn an 87-point lead over teammate Martin Truex Jr.  The next race will be this Sunday, May 2nd at the Kansas Speedway. 

SCHATZ WATCH 

Fargo’s Donny Schatz has had an uncharacteristically slow start to his 2021 season where he has been winless in the first 16 World of Outlaw features this season.  He has picked up a couple podium finishes, Most recently with a second at Jacksonville Speedway last night.  The team Schatz drives for, Stewart Haas Racing, has struggled this season across the board being winless in the NASCAR Cup Series as well. The World of Outlaws make their first trip in 35 years to the I-70 Motorsports Park in Odessa, MO to kick off a Friday/Saturday double header tonight where Schatz hopes to snap the losing streak.

TOMORROW NIGHT: Red River Valley Speedway test and tune (Noon) I94 Sure Step Speedway (6PM)
