We needed hearts, not diamonds! We watched The Fan (1981) with the very funny Jeff Nelson and we could use a warm cup of High Point coffee!  Lauren Bacall plays a Broadway actress with an obsessive fan played by Michael Biehn who may, or may not be a closet-case (spoiler alert: he totally is).  A pre-Terminator (sexy as hell) Biehn spends the movie typing explicit letters to Sally Ross (Bacall) but is rejected at every turn.  Maureen Stapleton as Sally’s no-nonsense secretary and James Garner as Sally’s would-be love interest round out the cast and when the three of them shared the screen I could smell the second hand smoke from their voices alone. The play within the movie is the most homosexual thing I’ve seen in a long time - and this is the same movie with Michael Biehn jumping into a YMCA pool in his boxer shorts. In New York City.  In 1981.  You do the math.
