Welcome to Getting To The Truth In This Art. This week I have the pleasure of speaking with trombonist, composer, and arranger Corey Wallace.

Soulful. Empowering. Tasteful. All have been used to describe the playing, composing styles, and the musicality of trombonist Corey A. Wallace. With a strong sense of tradition, love for all things good music, and a desire to be heard, he is able to reach and captivate audiences with his unique interpretations of melody and approach to improvisation and the music making process. Believing in learning directly from his peers and the elders, Wallace has shared the stage and/or has studied with a host of jazz luminaries, such as Wycliffe Gordon, Lee Konitz, Joe Chambers, Jason Marshall, Vincent Gardner, Matt Wilson, Grachan Moncur III, Howard Johnson, Andrew Cyrille, Whit Williams, Tim Green, Warren Wolf, Matt Wilson and many others; as well as Kim Burrell, Antone “Chooky” Caldwell (as well as contributed/arranged music for his recent album “Subject to Change”), Nolan Williams, Jr., Marcus Johnson, Mary C & the Stellars, and Earth, Wind, and Fire tribute band "In Gratitude" of the R&B/funk/gospel/genres. Wallace was also selected as the 2012 Best Trombonist by the Washington City Paper for his “technical fluidity and for the heavy dose [of] introspection that sits right on the surface of his playing”.
