After spending millions on players in recent transfer windows, you'd expect the assembled team to be able to make 10-yard passes, not constantly over-hit crosses, not give the ball away like it's a hot potato and know what they're doing when it comes to taking and defending set pieces. At times, it was embarrassing against Newcastle.

While it's appreciated that Steven Gerrard will have growing pains building his team, the owners will no doubt be a little alarmed by the lacklustre nature of the performance.
