In a series of six lectures, Michael Fried offers a compelling account of what he calls "the internal structure of the pictorial act" in the revolutionary art of Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio. Fried argues that this divided relationship lies at the heart of Caravaggio's most radical art.
