In the last several weeks, we have had several topics about coping, crises, loss, emergencies, and similar concepts. We’ve had many episodes on depression and suicide. More recently, we had:
Ep. 68 - Wish You Were Here (Grief Loss Mourning Closure) 5-1-19Ep. 83 - 2 Mins to Midnight (Terror Management Theory) 1-8-2020Ep. 86 - Flirting With Disaster (Coping under crisis) Pt. 1 of 2 4-1-2020Ep. 86 - Flirting With Disaster (Coping under crisis) Pt. 2 of 2 4-15-2020
Tonight, we wanted to focus specifically on the psychological aspects of helping, both from the giving and receiving ends. We have spoken before about grief, fear, and loss. We haven’t focused much on the mechanic of responding to these in others or even in ourselves. We don’t focus on it as a culture or society, or try to teach it in schools or civic groups, and yet nearly all of us will be on both the giving and receiving ends of help in a crisis, moment of need, or in grieving, at some point in our lives.

Tonight, we will discuss:
The Community Function of Helping (not doing it alone)Helpfulness in Different Forms When Helpfulness Isn’t Helpful, and Why or Why NotSuggestions for Both Givers and Receivers to Improve Healthy Helping
We'll start off the evening with some topic-relevant Classic Rock played by Dr. Mathis, followed by Classic Rock trivia in "The Rock & Roll Shrink Recalls," followed by our topic discussion.

Please follow our bi-weekly, Wednesday evening shows, at 11 pm EST/EDT. We will have a new topic for you in two weeks!
