For the Colossians, teachers had come into the young church and began to teach that Jesus was the beginning of your salvation but he cannot bring it to completion. Paul’s intention in Colossians 1:15-20 is to challenge that directly and to show that Christ is supreme over all creation, over the Church, and he is sufficient to heal all that is broken.
