Moses didn’t exactly see himself as being a spokesperson for God. When God called him to lead the Israelites out of Egypt, Moses’ first reaction was disbelief. Even when God reassured him, Moses still begged for God to send someone else. To date, Moses didn’t have the greatest résumé to become God’s spokesperson. Raised as a prince of Egypt while his fellow Israelites laboured as slaves, Moses had killed a man and then had to flee Egypt. He spent the next 40 years as a shepherd in the wilderness and, by his own admittance, was “slow of speech and of tongue” (Exod. 4:10). Now, at age 80, he’s not quite the man you would think of to fulfill the duties God laid out before him. But this is just one of many examples showing that God’s ways are not our ways. Countless times in the Bible we see that God uses the most unlikely people to accomplish the most extraordinary things. As far as God was concerned, Moses was just the man for the job, proving that God does not call the qualified, but He surely does qualify the called.
