The Massachusetts legislature has unveiled a 129- page bill on police reform after four months of behind-closed-doors negotiations. The policing legislation agreement creates a Massachusetts Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission (aka POST), a nine-member civil enforcement agency with the power to certify officers, oversee investigations into officer misconduct, and rescind an officers’ license. Additionally, the bill makes no significant change to qualified immunity for police officers. What do you make of the newly introduced police reform bill?
