At 29-years-old, Elaine Welteroth became the youngest person and only the second African-American ever appointed editor-in-chief in Conde Nast’s history serving in the role for Teen Vogue. When the publication decided to cease print operations in December 2018, Welteroth decided it was time to pursue a new career path. She currently stars as a judge on Project Runway alongside Karlie Kloss and Christian Siriano, and recently published “More Than Enough: Claiming Space for Who You Are (No Matter What They Say),” a part-manifesto, part-memoir on what it means to come into your own. On this episode, Welteroth talks about hiding her age from her coworkers to avoid ageism, experiencing burnout at the age of 30, and how leaving Teen Vogue was the hardest business decision she’s ever had to make.
