Season 5 - Episode 100: Flooded Timber Duck Hunting - a podcast by Heidi Lyn Rao
from 2022-01-28T05:00
Don't knock it until you try it! Talk about an experience to be invited to go on a flooded timber duck hunt! There are several different ways to duck hunt...from setting up a pop-up blind and "brushing" it in, filling and surrounding it with cattails and reeds, to sitting in a structure-type of a duck blind, camouflaged on the water's edge, to going right where the ducks are, and getting in the water with them!
I was invited to bring nearly 30 first-time "flooded timber duck hunters" on a weekend hunt. We tent camped all weekend in the blustery cold, enduring the high winds as a cold front barreled through. Teaching others about the proper gear to have to not only be safe and legal as a duck hunter, but also to be comfortable and warm!
I led the Girl Group and true to form - ours was the first group to have a bird in hand after legal shooting hours! A lot of bragging and social media posting, soon the boys followed with more ducks to show. We had a great time with lots of laughs, stories, and campfire songs each night.
Enjoy!
