God is both sovereign and holy—not just a little bit, but totally and completely. These attributes mean that without God taking the initiative, we would be eternally and fully lost. Yet even when chosen/elected/predestined by God there remains a choice—will we fear and serve him? Our faith response to God’s love is something we have to choose. It’s where Joshua and God’s people are at the end of Joshua’s life. “Choose this day …” It’s the single most consequential and beneficial choice we can ever make.
