Our relationship with God only comes about because he has forgiven our sins. Whether we don’t feel like we need to be forgiven or like there is no way we could ever be forgiven, the Bible makes it clear that God forgives sins through Jesus Christ, and this forgiveness is necessary for our relationship with him. He cancels our debt—our inherited and beyond-our-ability-to-pay IOU. It is this forgiveness that results in our transformation from spiritually dead to completely alive in Christ.
