The Transfiguration and Christ’s Coming

A. THE POWER AND COMING OF CHRIST (2 Peter 1:16).

1. The second coming is in view.

2. Not based on made-up myths.

3. Based on eyewitness testimony.

B. THE TRANSFIGURATION PREFIGURES THE SECOND COMING (2 Peter 1:17-18).

1. Christ received honor and glory at the transfiguration (2 Peter 1:17).

2. Jesus went up to pray about the cross. Luke 9:28, 22, 30-31.

3. The transfiguration glory anticipates the second coming.

a. The transfiguration is the Father’s answer to the Son’s prayer.

b. Jesus had referenced the coming kingdom. Mark 9:1

4. The Father’s expressed approval of His Son (2 Peter 1:17).

a. Christ received glory.

b. Christ received honor.

5. The apostles heard God speak from heaven (2 Peter 1:18).
