Maggie Sprenger (@maggiesprenger) is money in the clutch. She's not phased by a down market. Maggie is a GP and co-founder of Green Cow Venture Capital. A bicoastal fund backing founders using greenfield technologies to solve big problems around scarcity and inefficiency. Prior to hunting Green Cows, Maggie ran a real estate fund focused on repositioning distressed multi-family assets during the height of the 2008 Global Financial Crisis. Not only did Maggie not fail, she delivered outsized returns while also influencing positive community development. Maggie has been invited to speak at about a gazillion (real number) conferences on four (actual real number) continents where she's spoken on topics ranging from investing to reduce rates of gender-based violence in emerging markets to building safeguards in algorithmic design. Maggie also serves as an advisor at Dianna Capital, a bad-ass organization committed to putting $1B in the hands of female founders. Maggie picked up her BA at UC Santa Barbara and her MBA from Wharton. Save some success for the rest of us, Maggie.

In this episode, Maggie breaks down how she modeled a recession-proof fund strategy. She speaks on what it's like to start a venture fund with your high-school BFF. She gives us her tips on how to 80/20 the road from angel to institutional investor. She also gives her take on how the GP staking model should evolve, and the skillset that distinguishes the top emerging managers. Maggie gives us frameworks to help founders anticipate the second and third-order consequences of the algorithms they build.

Maggie asks us to roll with the punches as she teaches us how to build a great fund from Day 1.
