Winter Mead (@wintmead) and Welly Sculley (@wsculley) want people to stop sleeping on emerging managers. Institutional LPs think of venture capital as a niche within alternative assets. They consider emerging VCs a sub-niche of that niche, and micro-VC a sub-niche of that sub-niche. To say that they don't take investing in emerging micro-VC seriously would be an understatement. Winter and Welly are here to change all that with Oper8r by empowering the next generation of great emerging micro-VCs.

Prior to Oper8r, Winter was an LP at Hall Capital Partners and Sapphire Ventures where he evaluated 300-500 managers per year having done up to 40 reference calls on a single manager. Winter is a machine and he knows his shit. Winter also runs a maple syrup company so he is literally a "venture capitalist with an emerging maple syrup conglomerate". Welly's something of a bad-ass himself. Prior to Oper8r, Welly was leading Partnership Strategy at Ripple where he joined in 2013, helping take Ripple's market cap from $30M to $11B. Welly's too humble to say it himself, but he became an expert on emerging VC in a matter of months.

In this episode, Winter and Welly break down why empowering emerging VCs will scale the entire ecosystem, why exactly emerging VC is an attractive asset class, and take us through emerging manager pain points including why fundraising is notoriously difficult for emerging micro-VCs. They also give us a bird's eye view into how LP's see things, address what gets lost in translation, and suggest solutions for systemic issues bottlenecking growth.

The Oper8r. (@oper8rio) crew shares what it's like to go from high school rivals, to college teammates, to co-founders, as they teach us how to build and invest in great funds from Day 1.
