Ian Thorpe - For the final athlete interview in the series, Nat talks to Australia’s most successful OLYmpian: Ian Thorpe AKA The Thorpedo, who, as a 17 year old competing in Sydney, took home five medals and broke two world records! Ian talks about his epic first day in Sydney: winning gold in the 400m freestyle event, and again in the 200m freestyle relay later that day. Ian also recalls the vivid memories of the crowd screaming his name, his close call with a broken zipper before the relay, and how he beat the fastest swimmer in the world at that time, Gary Hall Jr. In this episode, you’ll also find out why Thorpey sets his alarm for exactly 4:17am.
