The World Health Organization has designated 2020 as “The Year of the Nurse and Midwife”. We certainly have covered the nurses in depth, it is time we talk about the midwife. While often individuals become nurses prior to being midwives, this is not always the case in all countries. The sets of challenges and issues faced by midwives can be VERY different from those of most nurses. When I met Sally Pezaro, PhD MSc BA (Hons) RM, an Academic Midwife at the School of Nursing, Midwifery and Health at Coventry University, Great Britain, I was greatly impressed with her qualifications and deep knowledge of this area of healthcare. She joins me today to discuss Midwives in Great Britain, the well-being of the midwife in their role, safety of maternity care, creating better understandings & care for the birthing transgender community, exploring problematic substance use among registered midwives, and the incidence of domestic violence. Please join us!
