The disparities in healthcare & related topic of nursing workforce representation of African Americans (AA) and other minority groups is a needed dialogue. If you are not involved, you may be unaware of the problem or how important it is we rectify it. Many have known the healthcare of AA is consistently not of the same quality as other patients, especially when compared to whites. Now there are numerous studies validating that truth. It is especially apparent in the Maternity & Newborn populations. My guest today, Dr. Daihnia Dunkley, is an expert in Maternity statistics & advocate for improvement of healthcare we deliver to this vulnerable population. It is vital for the success of our nation that mothers are safe throughout pregnancy & delivery & each child born is healthy & able to grow to adulthood in an environment of safety. It is equally vital that the nursing workforce is a true reflection of the diverse populations we serve, in order to effectively address the disparities!
