Episode 41 of One Week Only! This week our key film is the powerful and poetic documentary "I Am Not Your Negro," which is based on the writings of James Baldwin about the Civil Rights Era, and reflects on how we are still grappling with race in America in 2016. Directed by Raoul Peck, this is a striking look at how little has changed since the 1960s and how little white Americans know or care about the black experience. The film is getting a one-week qualifying run in New York and Los Angeles, and will come to theaters nationwide in February, from Magnolia Pictures.

As Awards Season continues, this week we look at the 15-film shortlist for the Best Documentary Oscar, including "I Am Not Your Negro," and the Los Angeles Film Critics Association's Award Winners, including "your name" for Best Animated Film and "The Lobster" for Best Screenplay.

We also review the coming of age comedy "SLASH" about erotic fan fiction, directed by Clay Liford; the hilarious existential comedy "The Brand New Testament" directed by Jaco Van Dormael; and Danish WWII Drama "Land of Mine" directed by Martin Zandvleit.
