Ep4-WOTE - Music & Health Part II: Stairwell Project Music in Hospitals - Celeste MacIntosh - a podcast by Kim Stewart

The Brisbane Women’s Community Radio Training Project was organised to help balance gender bias in Community Radio, and to empower women who may not be able to access community radio training and volunteering by usual pathways.

The project was run by Kim Stewart, Maddie Watt, Lucy Czerwinski and Elena Black.

Each episode is 60 minutes and includes music.

In this first episode of the Women On The Edge Series CJ talks to the diverse range of women who signed up for a rollercoaster ride into community radio!

Episode 2 - Food Not Bombs Please!

In this episode we meet Alison Maclean, who is new to radio production. Alison explores the history and work of Food Not Bombs in Brisbane where for over a decade they have been feeding the homeless with food that would otherwise go to landfill, while creating community.

Alison is a disability advocate and member of the Whoopeedo Crew writing and singing songs.

Episode 3 - When you are a musician with a chronic illness

Over two episodes Celeste MacIntosh explore the connections between music and health. In this episode she talks to multi-award-winning Jazz musician Danny Widdicombe, who was diagnosed with cancer, and how living with a chronic health condition has affected his art and work.

In this episode Beth Henson takes us back to her hometown of on the island of Luzon in the Philippines where music is vital part of community life.

Beth is a new radio producer who contributes to radio 4EB’s Filipino Show.

Episode 8 - The Other Side of the Story

Income management continues to be used by the government in indigenous communities and other impoverished communities, and has raised serious welfare concerns. Despite losing their attempt to introduce the cashless welfare bill across the board, it is far from gone from their agenda.

Justine is concerned about social justice and human rights, and has recently become a co-host of Paradigm Shift on 4ZZZ.


Episode LAST - 1.4 square kilometres

In this episode Shona Hawkes explores Fortitude Valley, home to Community Radio 4 Triple Zed and many other colourful characters, but which is experiencing rapid social change. She talks to a range of people on the frontlines of gentrification and also reveals the deep disparity in who gets to make decisions about the suburbs future.

Shona is new to radio and also contributes to 4ZZZ’s BrisbaneLine.
