Season 2 is going to go down in history and speaking of history it’s Black History Month and we are starting with a bang on #TheOpenTabsPodcast . Joe and Calvin discuss Francis Ford Coppola’s initially maligned, probably underrated, and MASTERFULLY redone, The Cotton Club: Encore. The original release has so much history behind it, kidnapping and murder (sorry Reese we didn’t mention that), you name it. It was the most troubled of troubled film productions. The studio felt the film was too Black so Coppola’s original vision was not fulfilled. Coppola being Coppola though, 35 years later fulfills his vision after all using some of his own money. Everybody go buy a bottle of one of his wines, because this film was worth it. If you love music and dance, see this film. If you love history, see this film. If you love gangsters, see this film. See this film y’all! And whether you’ve seen it or not watch and listen to our podcast as we go all the way in on the Cotton Club: Encore starring Gregory Hines, Lonette McKee, Richard Gere, Bob Hoskins, and Diane Lane.
