In 2009, Gordo Cabeza used an “off-night” at a San Francisco neighborhood bar to rediscover the Motown and Soul music he grew up on. What started as a means of musical discovery eventually evolved and exploded into “Motown on Monday”, a weekly multi-city dance party with chapters all over the United States including Oakland, Los Angeles, Honolulu, Chicago and Brooklyn. But MoM is more than a weekly party, it’s a “family of DJs, producers, musicians and music enthusiasts that all share a passion for the convergence of soul music and dancing.”

In this interview, Gordo Cabeza talks about the connection he has to Motown music. the power that comes with having the support of a venue, and the caution of going in to business with your friends.
