Blessings in the Psalms
The Psalms
Tehillim: “praise songs”
Psalmoi (yalmoi): “songs of praise”
THE Bible enables us to: (i) understand our faith, the ‘Bible within the Bible’ (Psalms): (ii) to express our faith.
C.S.: “Private and unfiltered songs prayers and petitions, an inspired anthology of praise.”
Long before there was an earth or a Bible or the voice of man, there was praise to God (Job 38:7).
Job 38 4Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth?..... 7When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?
W.W. “The Psalms present God as being both immanent and transcendent.”
Transcendent. Trans = across. Cend (cedere) = give way for.
Beyond or above the range of normal or physical human experience. Surpassing the ordinary; exceptional, existing apart from, and not subject to, the limitations of the material universe.
Immanent. Existing or operating within; inherent, (of God) permanently pervading and sustaining the universe.
