JUSTIFICATION
Introduction:
Romans plan for salvation -
? “There is no one righteous, not even one” - Romans 3: v 11
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” - Romans 3: v 23
? What is SIN? – 1 John 3: v 4
? Where did sin come from?=Roman 5:12
“Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned.”
? Wages of Sin - “For the wages of sin is death…”Romans 6: v 23a
Bad news : The sentence = Guilty = Death
? Gift of God = but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” – Romans 6: v 23b
Good news : a criminal pardoned. = Eternal Life
But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us proves, demonstrates, shows…His love towards us (yet sinners) (He died) Romans 5:v8
WHAT IT MEANS TO BE JUSTIFIED : God has promised salvation by faith
Doctrine: Faith is Jesus Christ is the reasonable ground for God’s defense or vindication of a sinner (the ungodly). Not condemned
Justification is for only those who repent and believe in Jesus Christ.
Blessed is the one whose sin the Lord will never count against them. Romans 4: v8 (Psalms 32)
John 1: v 12 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God
John 3 v 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son. (This is no future condemnation. It is NOW) already! Walking corpse.
Acts: 16: v 31 They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household.”
SALVATION IS MANY-SIDED:
(i) Adoption: God acts as a Father
(ii) Sanctification: God acts as a Doctor
(iii) Justification: God acts as a Judge :
The basis of Judgement is the moral law (We have all broken God’s laws)
HOW ANY SINNER IS JUSTIFIED?:
(i) Christ's righteousness is imputed Romans 5: v18
(ii) the 2 aspects of this righteousness (practicing righteousness)
(iii) the way a sinner receives it (gift of God and not our obligation): Be clear – no merit of ours at all
THE ONLY WAY TO BE JUSTIFIED IS BY FAITH
Doctrine: By faith alone…In whom? Jesus Christ= Salvation (Why JESUS ?)
Serious mistakes on this point is to think that :
(i) "God is love" and will not punish
(ii) People commit sin ignorantly
(iii) Baptism cleanse us
(iv) Faith needs to be supplemented
TO BE JUSTIFIED IS TO HAVE VICTORY IN JESUS CHRIST:
Jesus was raised for our Justification-Romans 4 v 24, 25 “He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification”
Power of sin (death) is our greatest enemy. 1 Cor 15 v 14-23, 51
“For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive.” - v22
Eternal life 2 Tim 1:9, 10 - 9 He has saved us and called us to a holy life—not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time, 10 but it has now been revealed through the appearing of our Savior, Christ Jesus, who has destroyed death and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel.
I am the Resurrection and Life John 11 v 23-25
TO BE JUSTIFIED IS TO BE HAVE PEACE WITH GOD
1) What is this "peace": The Peace of God that passeth all human understanding”
(i) That all your sins (past, present and future) had been the pardoned
(ii) Through Christ's perfect righteousness
(iii) The verdict of "NOT Guilty" before God
(iv) The comfort of God's love restored to us
TO BE JUSTIFIED IS TO HAVE GODS BLESSINGS:
Romans 5: 1-5 (NIV)
