Messiah Unveiled
John 2 & Luke 4

The Wedding at Cana – John 2:1-11
2 On the third day there was a wedding at Cana in Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there.
2 Jesus also was invited to the wedding with his disciples.3 When the wine ran out,
the mother of Jesus said to him, “They have no wine.”4 And Jesus said to her, “Woman,
what does this have to do with me?
My hour has not yet come.” 5 His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”
6 Now there were six stone water jars there for the Jewish rites of purification, each holding
twenty or thirty gallons.
[7 Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water.” And they filled them up to the brim.
8 And he said to them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the feast.” So they took it.
9 When the master of the feast tasted the water now become wine, and did not know where it
came from (though the servants who had drawn the water knew), the master of the feast
called the bridegroom
10 and said to him, “Everyone serves the good wine first, and when people have drunk freely,
then the poor wine. But you have kept the good wine until now.”
11 This, the first of his sign (miracles), Jesus did at Cana in Galilee,
and manifested his glory. And his disciples believed in him.

Jesus in the synagogue in Nazareth – Luke 4:14-22
14 And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit to Galilee, and a report about him went out through
all the surrounding country. 15 And he taught in their synagogues, being glorified by all.
Jesus Rejected at Nazareth 16 And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up.
And as was his custom, he went to the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and he stood up to read.
17 And the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place
where it was written,
18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,     because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor.
“He sent me to heal the broken hearted” (KJV) He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives    and recovering of sight to the blind,    to set at liberty those who are oppressed,19 to proclaim the year of the Lord's favour.” 20 And he rolled up the scroll and gave it back to the
attendant and sat down. And the eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on him.
21 And he began to say to them, “Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.”
22 And all spoke well of him and marvelled at the gracious words that were coming from his mouth.
And they said, “Is not this Joseph's son?”
