Temptation in the Wilderness
This world is a wilderness….this ‘JOURNEY of LIFE” is a TEST of the Heart
Nothing in this world can satisfy your soul …a place of famine, emptiness, & temptations
In Duet 8:2-3 – “LORD God led you 40 yrs in the wilderness to Test you, Know your Heart…”
“ LORD JEHOVAH carried you, I fed you, your clothes didn’t grow old, your feet didn’t swell
WHAT A LESSON …Not a day goes by .. We need His Grace ..His Word …His SPIRIT
Lessons from Jesus Christ in the Wilderness
Sympathy from God - God meets us where we are.
Sinless Perfection – In Him there was no sin ( I John 3:5)
Sinfulness of the Flesh -Temptation is sure to come
Satanic Enticement - God provides a way of escape
Spiritual Resources We have 3 resources – The Spirit, The Word, a Great High Priest
Standing Strong We need to take action – STAND

Sinless Perfection of Jesus Christ ….He was tempted in everyway,
just as we are yet He did not sin” Hebrews 4:15
The wilderness was a test …He was led of the Spirit (driven Mark 1:12-13)
There was nothing in Him to respond to sin ( John 14:30…Satan “has no hold over me”)
Peter says “ He did no sin “ I Peter 2:22
Paul said “ He knew no sin” 2 Cor 5:21
John said ” In Him is no sin” I John 3:5
Many eyes witnesses concur, even his enemies “ which you convinces me of sin?” John 8:46
External Blamelessness, eye witnesses , the Virgin Birth – (generational contamination from Adam)
He is TESTED OF THE DEVIL – 40 days (testing) – to prove His Impeccability In the worst conditions, most strenuous , most severe
Exposed to the power of spiritual darkness – The Devil
Not only did He not sin…He was tested to prove He could not sin
This gives us Eternal Security in Christ
The Sinfulness of our own Flesh … temptation is a life long struggle
Each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own evil desire” James 1:13
This is the Wilderness Experience … a cycle of temptations, struggles with sin and victories
by faith in Jesus Christ (Example – Children of Israel in the Wilderness of Sinai Psalm 78)
Romans 7:18 – 25 Paul said “ In me, in my flesh dwells no good thing” struggle with sin
… when I would do good, evil is present with me … what a wretched man I am…
….who will rescue me ? Thanks be to God who delivers me through Jesus Christ”.
We wrestle against the flesh, (the sin principal within) ….we need to be aware of our own weakness …our vulnerability
Satanic Enticement … “He was tested in everyway ( that is in every way that all humanity is tested) ….yet He did not sin” Hebrews 4:15
Satan tempted Jesus in the wilderness the same way he tempts us
First he questions God’s word… takes TRUTH and puts a spin on it “ If…” to create doubt
He tempts us with the lust of the flesh - physical desire
“Jesus, IF YOU ARE THE SON OF GOD ….turn these stones into bread”
“ It is written…” Man shall not live by bread alone”
He tempts us with the lust of the eyes – emotional desire
“ Look at all the kingdoms of the world & their splendor…. I will give them to you”
