Jesus Christ – Who is He ? …as he is presented in public ministry

We have already learned …
He is God (John 1:1 “He was with God and He was God”/ Matt 1:23 “Immanuel”)
He is Eternal (Luke 1:33 “ His kingdom is forever”)
He is the Creator (John 1:3 “ All things were made by Him”)

At His Baptism He is announced from heaven as “the well beloved Son of God”
He is the Perfect Man …. “the one who is well pleasing to God”
He is the the Messiah … John 4:26 “ when Messiah is come …” …“I am He”
Pre-eminent
Provision for the sin of the world
Presented to every person

“The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world” John 1:29

Why was Jesus baptized ?

He certainly never had to repent, for he had no sin in Him.
 
To endorse John’s ministry …. It was from God
To identify with those He came to save
To “FULFILL ALL RIGHTEOUSNESS”, ….” Let it be so to fulfill all righteousness “

it was a picture a foreshadow of His baptism at the cross…
…..when He would bear the wrath of God …and a public acknowledgment
that the Father was well pleased in Him.

He is pre-Eminent – “ This is My Beloved Son ….
I am well pleased in Him”

Jesus coming out of the water..” saw the heavens open , and the Spirit of God in the form of a dove descending upon Him…and then a voice from heaven said “ This is my beloved Son”

John 3:31 “ He is above ALL”
Ephesians 1:21 “
Colossians “ 1:18 “
‘That in all things He might have the pre-eminence – FIRST PLACE”

He is the provision for the sin of the world

Matt 3:15 “ let it be so…to fulfill all righteousness”…this is a striking statement

Romans 10:2-4 / Romans 3:10, v 21, 22 v 25, 26 / Romans 5:17-21 / II Cor 5:21 / Galatians 2:21

No one is righteous … no one can establish his own righteousness
Righteousness can never be earned by Law keeping …it comes by faith alone in Jesus Christ
Righteousness was won at the cross when Jesus was “made to be sin” for us
If righteousness could be earned in anyway…then Jesus Christ died “in vain”
“ HE CAME TO FULFILL ALL RIGHTEOUSNESS” …Has he accomplished it in you ?
Or to you …was His death and resurrection in vain ?

He is presented to every person “ as the propitiation for their sins”
“ Behold …stop and Look …The Lamb of God, who TAKES AWAY the sin of the world” John 1:29

Look at Him and ask …WAS THIS FOR ME ? He is presented to you today…
as John the Baptist presented Him to the nation of Israel 2000 yrs ago

“ propitiation for our sins ? (the sin atoning sacrifice /that which satisfies God) Ch 2:2
The (One and ONLY) Lamb of GOD ….God’s lamb…every one had “a lamb” – a picture of Jesus
This is the PERFECT LAMB …not a PICTURE … the authentic provision from God Himself
By HIMSELF …Purged our sins (Heb 1:3)
He was the Provider / He was the Priest / He was the Sacrifice
…He offered HIMSELF … HIS own blood …
”BEHOLD The Lamb of God, who TAKES AWAY the sin of the world …(Not to cover up / not to simply be merciful / no …but to BEAR in His own body the sin of the world …
TAKE IT AWAY ….gone (Lev 16:22) Jesus Christ came into the world to save sinners….
(To Fulfill All Righteousness)
