3 things Jesus taught
1./ Justification is by faith alone in Him
2./ God has shown us MERCY
3./ We ought to SHOW MERCY to others
THIS was REVOLUTIONARY to the MINDS of the SCRIBES & PHARISEES
They hated him for it … their whole system of religion was based on obtaining favour with God
through keeping the law keeping / their pious works gave them a sense of pride.
The Ultimate Question is ….. “ What must I DO to inherit Eternal Life ?”
A question many ask today…this question infers that we have only TEMPORARY LIFE …. Need Eternal Life
 There are many things wrong with this young lawyer’s question
He was TESTING Jesus / challenging Him … and so Jesus then tested him
He was seeking an intellectual connection with God / looking for “Check Box Religion”
The LORD is looking for a HEART connection …. then Jesus tested his heart
Quoted the LAW /The man assumed a perfect self-righteous position with God
Jesus asked him if he would be willing to give God 1st place in his heart …he declined
The lawyer was ignorance about the IDENTITY of the LORD / assumed he was just a teacher
This lawyer thought ETERNAL LIFE was earned by doing some great work
So how is Eternal Life obtained ?
Jesus taught justification is by FAITH alone in HIM ….. This lawyer was looking to connect himself to God through his own self righteousness….GOD’s wants us to understand our condition and our helplessness.

 By believing on the LORD Jesus Christ (everyone who believes on Him has Eternal Life)

Believing on the Lord Jesus Christ with all your heart is how you know you have Eternal Life…This is what the WORD of God says …. Romans 10:9 / Acts 16:31
 ETERNAL LIFE IS NOT OBTAINED BY WORKS

Jesus taught that God has shown us MERCY … Who is my Neighbour ?
This man was concerned about earning favour with God
and being worthy of Eternal Life .
Jesus taught by this parable … - Our Condition / His Compassion / His Healing
 Our Condition …The Priest (Religion) … The Levite (the Law)
Downward traveling … Fell into trouble …sorrow and brokenness that sin brings / it affects us all
The road is SHORT, DOWNWARD and DANGEROUS …..we are without Strength (Romans 5:6)
Wounded, Crippled , Helpless, …needing healing

His Compassion
It’s a SAMARATIAN that came to help … HATED & REJECTED …. DESPISED ( Isaiah 53:3)
HE CAME … TO WHERE HE WAS !!!
HE SAW HIM… this rich young ruler (loved) ..the multitudes (compassion)…
the Leper Matt 8 …Jairus and his daughter / the widow of Nain Luke 5 / the man on a bed 38 years/
Jesus wept at the tomb of Lazarus …HOW HE LOVED HIM … HE HAD COMPASSION on HIM!!!
“Surly He has bore our griefs and carried our sorrows – Isaiah 53:4
“ He BORE our sins …in his own body on the Cross” I Peter 2:24
Jesus taught that God has shown us MERCY … Who is my Neighbour ?
 His Healing …. SPIRITUAL HEALING FROM THE BROKENESS OF SIN
He poured in oil and wine
The Oil speaks of the Holy Spirit and the Wine speaks of the blood of Christ “ cleanses us from sin”
HEph 2:6 …
MAN’s RELIGION CAN’T HELP (The Priest) ….it’s empty ritual
KEEPING THE LAW CAN’T HEAL EITHER (The Levite) …. It’s brings condemnation
BUT THE GOOD SAMARITAN (JESUS CHRIST) came into the world to SAVE SINNERS …HEAL OUR BROKENESS
It’s NOT UNTIL we see our condition that we can appreciate His Mercy
Healing and Care
The good Samaritan brings this broken wounded man to the INN for respite care
He charges the Inn Keeper to “ TAKE CARE OF HIM “
I will repay you at ”My Coming”
