The Book of James 4&5
Pride the sin of sins
A believer sees another, and wants what they have, and despises them for having it
The stirring of evil thoughts
It was this sin, we're told, which transformed Lucifer, an anointed cherub of God, into Satan, the devil, the father of lies, the one for whom Hell itself was created.2
We're warned to guard our hearts against pride lest we too "fall into the same condemnation as the devil.
(James 4:2-3) The Pause [by the way]
If they asked, they may have received
Not in this case, request was selfish
(James 4:4-6) Friend of the world is not a friend of God.
1John 2:15-17
1 John 15:19
(James 4:6) The proud would refuse Gods help and grace
The humble realize they need Him, and God gives grace
James 4:7-8
Two commands
Submit yourselves to God by abandoning our pride, becoming a servant (Christ Like)
Resist the temptations Satan dangles in front of us (covered in detail in James chp. 1)
James 4:9-10
Our attitude & response to sin in our life
James 4:11-12
Pride: Do not judge a brother, who do you think you are?
James 4:13-16
Still dealing with a form of pride
Only pride would dare to guarantee tomorrow
No one can know what tomorrow brings
As christians we need to realize and acknowledge God and His plan, and mercies by always saying If the Lord wills
James 4:17 When you see a need, a good work and ignore it, or walk the other way, this is a sin
Since we’re moving to future tense, this reminds me of today
Satans group of cronies, every era has had them, built their wealth and power on the backs of slaves
Christians be patient, while suffering injustice, not to say make no effort to improve the situation, but always have the attitude of patient endurance
Look for His return
Set your hearts on Him (not in this world)
His return is so close
No pride, do not judge a brother
James 5:11 [that the Lord is very pitiful, and tender mercy.]
Pslam 103:8 The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy.
James 5:13-18
13 The Lord wants to hear from us about all situations
14 F.Y.I.
15-18 Faith and prayer can overcome much
Do not judge, and confess one to another, pray for one another
Prayer works
When a brethren has sin
Come along side them and guide them back, correct their ways
Save their soul from death
Avoid a multitude of sin
