The throne of God
King of Glory
Many OT references packed into 3 verses:
Leviticus 26 “I will walk among you…”
Isaiah 52 “Come out from them and be separate… touch no unclean thing
Jeremiah 31:9 “…because I am Israel’s Father…”
Israel… God’s covenant people
Believers in Christ… God’s (new) covenant people
Wide enough to include gentiles.
A king has subjects… God has a holy people
God is enthroned in holy majesty, and usually has dwelt in
The tabernacle (HOLY)
The temple (HOLY)
NO IDOLS ALLOWED!!!
Idolatry, right in God’s Temple
Ezekiel is lifted by the Spirit and has
A vision
v.4 “just as I had seen it in the plain”

A statue idol
v.6 “even greater abominations”
The temple decorated with idol images
70 elders burning incense
v.13 “even greater abominations”
Women mourning over an idol
v.15 “even greater abominations”
Men worshiping the sun
God’s Royal throne chariot
Ezekiel 9 describes the price of sin… God’s judgement, death.
Ezekiel 10 describes God’s glory departing from the temple
This vision is consistent with Ezekiel 1, 24 years later
It’s God’s throne chariot, magnificent, glorious, majestic… awesome
In chapter 43 God’s presence returns to the (probably millenial) temple, looking the same way
Why?
Ezekiel was being equipped for his commission
Many of God’s servants have a specific impactful event before their ministry/role begins
God is Sovereign and on His throne under all circumstances
3. A limited glimpse of God’s majesty and glory for us
Omniscience, omnipotence are evident
Significance of the Cherubs…?
4. Even in exile, God was still faithful to His people
What’s the point?
Back to 2 Corinthians 6:14-18
The physical temple structure isn’t the main thing
It’s the hearts of God’s people that matters
What is in our temples?
