Isabelle ReineckeĀ is a movement lawyer: someone who uses the power of law to serve social movments. Isabelle is the Founder and Executive Director of Grata Fund, the 2021 Women's Leadership Institute of Australia Fellow and the 2016 Churchill fellow. Isabelle joins Mia to talk about her influential upbringing; fighting injustice at an early age, petitioning against funding cuts to ABC Kids in primary school; grappling with inherited privilege, and harnessing it to make a positive impact; her studies in law and psychology at ANU, and how the university's proximity to Parliament House effected the law faculty and the course of her career; her early career in the Kimberley, fighting for recompensation for wages stolen from Indigenous communities; the change from corporate law to movement law; all about the work of the Grata Fund and current issues impacting the public, such as FOI laws; dealing with a chronic illness throughout much of her prodigious work; and the future of the Grata Fund, specifically in the intersection of Indigenous social justice and climate justice.
