In this episode I greatly enjoyed the opportunity to interview someone who was one of my most profound teachers and later joined the faculty at Pacific Rim College to teach a unique approach called Dynamic Interactive Acupuncture. I am pleased that Dr. Michael Greenwood and I talk at length about one of my most memorable lessons of his teachings and one that I passed on to my students: the power of intention.

Dr. Michael Greenwood has practiced Family Medicine for decades and has had a deep interest in healing chronic pain. From his own debilitating motorcycle accident while in medical school that left him with pain that was unresponsive to all conventional medicine had to offer arose a personal journey to a new understanding of health and illness, stress and deep inner tension, and how they affect our lives. At a time when so-called alternative therapies were relatively unknown in the West, Michael began studying Chinese Medicine, Ayurveda, and meditation and integrating them into his practice. He also delved into personal growth and transformation work to lead him from a place of anger of his accident to a place of peace and even appreciation for the work that it led him into.

Michael recorded many of his insights helping people to transition from their chronic pain into peace and healing in his first book, Paradox & Healing, Mythology and Transformation, that he co-authored with Dr. Peter Nunn.

Michael’s research into the use of acupuncture for post-motor-vehicle-accident chronic pain gradually evolved into the highly successful residential program at the Victoria Pain Clinic where Michael integrated many healing modalities in the care of people in pain. His second book, Braving the Void: Journeys into Healing, arose out of his experiences at the Pain Clinic, where he developed many of the interactive techniques discussed more fully in The Unbroken Field: The Power of Intention in Healing.

Michael has so much wisdom and experience to offer. Whether or not you suffer from chronic pain, whether or not acupuncture or medicine is your career, this episode is deeply provocative in the most powerful and positive ways. Buckle up for this ride as Dr. Michael Greenwood helps us all brave the void.
