BPM Edition 2009 v4 (Take 3) - a podcast by Keith a.k.a. K j A M

Two days ago, I had the chance to finally preview 'Take 2' and decided I wasn't exactly feeling the Bimbo Jones mix of "Push Up Word Up" and decided to swap it out for the club mix instead.  That version is more of a breakbeat mix very similar to the original 80s version by Cameo, which I like much better.  While I was at it, I went ahead and made some minor improvements to a couple of songs.  I decided that the Simply Red and Freemasons with Sophie Ellis- Bextor mixes were a little too slow for my taste.  So, I increased the BPM from 125 to 128 giving both songs an energy boost.  It's not as significant as you might think since the vocals remain the same and don't come out sounding like the Chipmunks.  I've done this before, but not after I had already posted the mix.  I also remastered the Freemasons mix to bring it up to par with the songs surrounding it.  The quality was a little lacking so I added some light compression to toughen it up a bit.  Anyway, if you want the final version, the mix along with a new .cue file has been replaced and is available for download.

I have to say this has been a hectic week.  I've had a lot on my plate and had all the mixes finished up on Sunday to get other work done.  The only problem was a slew of new promos showed up.  There were several worthwhile mixes that I added to this third installation, making it longer than previously projected.  I don't think anyone will mind and I'm guessing that the fourth will have some changes as well, though I can't guarantee the length.  I just thought I'd put that out there before some of you get all up in my face about the length of the mix.  Regardless, once you hear it, you'll be glad I made the additions.

Starting things off with quite possibly the hardest songs I've had to mix in a long time.  Ashley Tisdale's "It's Alright, It's Okay" and Kaci Battaglia's "Crazy Possessive (I'll Muck You Up)" are too big and I mean very BIG electro house tunes that you'll no doubt be hearing everywhere this summer.  The problem I had was the rolling beats that Dave Aude and Cahill used as the foundation for the songs.  The best way to mix in and out of these is to have a song in a perfect key that has no build-up or breakdown at the end.  Otherwise, you can forget it.  After messing around with it yesterday evening, I finally decided to move them to the front of the mix and took the easy way out of "Crazy Possessive" to keep things moving along.  Speaking of Dave Aude, this guy is on fire!  Last year I was complaining that he was kind of hit or miss in his mixes, but it seems that everything he's touched this year (and that's been a lot) is nothing short of magic! So I want to give a big shout out to Dave for rocking the floors in 2009!

We also get hot new tunes by Erika Jayne and Amanda Wilson.  Erika's new single "Give You Everything" (currently only available on iTunes ) is jam-packed with great mixes from Dave Aude, DJ Escape & Johnny Vicious, and Moto Blanco.  I would definitely add this to your essential list as it has something for every floor.  Equally, Amanda's "Make It Real" is one of three brand new songs from the budding diva in this series all begging for attention.  I'm not sure when she plans to stop and smell the roses, but I'll take that amazing voice anytime.  Now, will someone please give this woman a record deal, like yesterday?  Other songs already making a lot of noise are the Black Eyed Peas' "Boom Boom Pow" and Lady GaGa's latest "Love Game".  Both songs are already burning up the dancefloor and if it isn't where you're at, then request it.  The DJ will thank you.

Rounding the mix out, we get a hot new single from 80's freestyle artist Safire.  "Exotique" is another essential song that comes packed with great remixes by Mike Rizzo, Johnny Vicious, Jamie J. Sanchez and Mark Alston.  Once again,
