Many dance professionals share less than favorable opinions on sensationalized depictions of the dance world in popular television series and movies. Often, Hollywood portrays our training as ultra-competitive moms arguing with screaming teachers, our leading ladies as emotionally unstable perfectionists, and our competitions as make-it-or-break-it career moments. In this episode of Pas de Chat: Talking Dance, we discuss the implication dance shows and movies like So You Think You Can Dance, Dance Moms, Flesh & Bone, and Black Swan have on public perception of our art form.

Pas de Chát's host Barry Kerollis is an award-winning choreographer, instructor, and dancer with over 13 years experience in the dance world. His career includes directing Alaska Dance Theatre, dancing for Pacific Northwest Ballet, and traveling the country as a nationally-touring freelance artist. He also runs the popular blog, Life of a Freelance Dancer.
