The Patience of Pentecost: In the Spirit of God | Pastor Courtney Hall - a podcast by Praise Christian Fellowship Los Angeles

SCRIPTURE TEXT: Luke 24:45-53; Acts 1-2; Joel 2
On the second day of Passover, a wave offering of ripe grain begins the daily counting until seven weeks have passed & the First Fruits celebration known as Shavuot (“Weeks”) has arrived on the fiftieth day. The Greek word for “fiftieth” is pentekoste, and thus this celebration is called Pentecost. Not only does the event serve as thanksgiving to God for the grain harvest, it also commemorates God’s arrival in fire & power upon Mt. Sinai following the Exodus to give His Word to His people. And some fifteen hundred years later, it was on the Pentecost holiday, fifty days after Jesus’ Resurrection, that God’s Spirit arrived in flame & power to anoint all the early Christians assembled in Jerusalem who were waiting patiently for this “promise of the Father” (Luke 24:49). Pentecost depicts God’s faithfulness to fulfill what He has promised—and “the promise is to YOU” (Acts 2:39).
