Non–cystic fibrosis bronchiectasis (NCFBE) is a long-term respiratory condition with a significant impact on quality of life, morbidity, mortality, and use of healthcare resources. Recurrent infections, persistent cough, sputum production, and exacerbations can lead to disease worsening, making early diagnosis of paramount importance. Healthcare professionals involved in the diagnosis of patients with bronchiectasis must be aware of the various etiologies and CT features associated with NCFBE. This question-based educational activity will review these topics and make it easy to claim your CME/MOC credit. Upon completion of this activity, participants should be better able to: Use risk factors, signs and symptoms, testing, and imaging to facilitate accurate and prompt diagnosis and intervention to minimize progression of NCFBE; Describe underlying pathophysiologic mechanisms, including the role of neutrophilic inflammation and neutrophil serine proteases in NCFBE and their correlation to emerging therapies; and Incorporate existing and emerging therapies into customized management plans to decrease exacerbations and increase quality of life.
