With adjuvant EGFR-targeted therapy now a new standard of care in resected stage I-III EGFR-mutated non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), what are the implications and considerations for the multidisciplinary, multimodal management of these patients? A panel of specialists in thoracic surgery and medical oncology consider this question as they discuss the importance of biomarker testing in early-stage lung cancer, the latest clinical evidence supporting the use of adjuvant EGFR-targeted therapy, and its potential expansion into the neoadjuvant setting, as well as other targeted therapies showing promise in perioperative settings. In addition, the panel demonstrates strategies for achieving better partnerships among thoracic surgeons, oncologists, pathologists, and other key specialists to facilitate predictive testing, clinical decision-making, and the optimal incorporation of EGFR-targeted therapy into treatment plans for eligible patients with resectable NSCLC. Upon completion of this activity, participants should be better able to: Describe the role of EGFR mutations in NSCLC, advances in EGFR-targeted therapy in earlier disease settings, and the importance of identifying patients who might benefit from these therapies in perioperative settings; Select patients with early-stage resectable NSCLC who are candidates for adjuvant EGFR-targeted therapy or investigational, targeted approaches according to the latest evidence and guidelines; and Implement multidisciplinary and patient-centric strategies to integrate EGFR-targeted therapy into multimodal treatment plans for eligible patients with early-stage resectable NSCLC
