Systemic sclerosis is a rare connective-tissue disease that affects multiple organ systems and is characterized by extensive fibrosis, autoimmunity, and vascular dysfunction. Interstitial lung disease occurs in most patients with SSc and is now the primary cause of death in these patients. Treatment for SSc-ILD has historically been limited; however, novel therapies are now available and in development.
