Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR)-T cell therapy has recently emerged as an effective strategy for the management of multiple hematologic malignancies and offers hope for patients in leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma settings. Oncology nurse professionals have a central role within the hematology-oncology team in guiding patients through their treatment continuum with this innovative drug class. In this activity, based on a recent live symposium, an expert panel takes a deep dive into the science behind adoptive immunotherapy with CAR-T cells. They provide guidance on best nursing practices to effectively apply lymphodepletion regimens, safely administer CAR-T cell therapy, appropriately monitor for and manage unique CAR-T cell–related toxicities, educate and counsel patients on expectations from therapy throughout the treatment protocol, as well as collaborate and communicate with the team members to optimize benefit from this novel treatment approach in a diverse range of hematologic malignancies.
