Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic, inflammatory dermatologic condition characterized by the occurrence of suppurative, painful lesions, typically in the intertriginous areas. Diagnostic delay is common and is correlated with an increase in disease severity and a decrease in quality of life. While existing treatments are often inadequate and do not help all patients, one biologic agent is approved for the management of HS and a number of other emerging agents are currently undergoing phase 2 and 3 trials. In this activity, experts in dermatology will review symptomatology and provide strategies for making a timely and accurate diagnosis of HS and will offer practical guidance on incorporating existing and emerging therapies into the management of HS, with an emphasis on quality-of-life considerations. Upon completion of this activity, participants should be better able to: Identify signs, symptoms, and diagnostic challenges to make a timely and accurate diagnosis of hidradenitis suppurativa; Describe the burdens of disease and impact on quality of life for patients with hidradenitis suppurativa; Recognize the limitations of current therapies for hidradenitis suppurativa; and Apply clinical safety and efficacy data on emerging novel treatments for patients with hidradenitis suppurativa
