11. Jewel & Art Thieves: Doris Payne & Glafira Rosales - a podcast by Pink Collar Pod
from 2020-06-18T07:00
This week, Rachel tells the story of Doris "Diamond Doris" Payne. Payne gained notoriety for stealing millions of dollars worth of jewelry and fancy clothes. Over the seven decades of her criminal career, she was caught a handful of times but probably got away with more than anyone will ever know. She finally retired from her life of crime after she was caught walking out of Walmart with $86.22 worth of merchandise. Nathalie's case covers the story of Glafira Rosales, who was ordered to pay $81 million to the victims of her art scam. She sold paintings to the Knoedler art gallery from the made up collection of "Mr. X" (in her defense, they should have been a little more suspicious) between the years of 1994 and 2009.The gallery never recovered from the scandal and shut their doors in 2011.
