Jeremiah 35: 1-19

God expects nothing from us but obedience. In Jeremiah 35, the bible talks about the Rechabite people who were convinced it was easier to live life as nomads than to settle in the city and be tempted. They lived strictly by the instructions of their forefather who commanded them not to drink wine, live in tents instead of houses and not plant or own crops. They were told they would live longer if they obeyed these commands. Though these instructions were not given to them by God, they followed them religiously. God took notice of how obedient they were to their forefather’s rules and told Jeremiah to invite them to the chambers of the Israelites and give them wine, to which they refused. God admired their obedience and resented the fact that His own people did not follow His commands. We must position ourselves ready to obey the Lord as a glorious church. Anytime we do anything contrary to what the Lord has told us may our Spirit speak to us! We will overcome evil if we obey the Lord!
